According to Japanese folklore, raccoon dogs (tanuki) are mischievous creatures capable of changing shape. Thus, they can turn into inanimate objects, or pretend to be humans. In this wonderful, hilarious and above all angry animated film by Studio Ghibli founder Isao Takahata (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya), the animals fight to protect their habitat, which is threatened by large-scale construction projects. 

This includes attacks on construction workers - using their magical scrotums - and attempts to frighten local residents by posing as ghosts. Unmissable classic.
