The infectiously laconic way director Liu Jian presents all this to us has already been compared by many to the work of Tarantino. On the other hand, one could argue that Liu, as a true free agent, simply does his own thing and cares little for existing formulas. In the grinning heads in the background of the scene in which the gangster boss tortures an old friend, we recognize a link to contemporary visual art in China.
Have a Nice Day has already attracted considerable attention at numerous festivals, including the Holland Animation Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival.
