Boris Hiestand

Boris Hiestand is not only an animator and director, but also a voice actor. Initially he only provided temporary voices for videos that he had to animate. But when clients preferred his voice over professional actors, a new talent was discovered! Since then, Hiestand has provided voices for computer games such as Overwatch, Assassins Creed: Valhalla and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and for series such as Lego City and Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed! He also directed 50 episodes for the latter series. As an animator, Boris Hiestand worked on Guardians of the Galaxy, Angy Birds, Hotel Transylvania and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He is currently working on new animation projects in London.

Rachelle Joy Slingerland

Rachelle is a visual development artist and character designer. She prefers to spend her time in the fantasy worlds she creates rather than in our ‘real’ world. She also designs these worlds on commission, for instance for television commercials like those of Unox, Trekpleister, Etos and ASN bank. In doing so, she takes into account the message and the story that needs to be told. How does that work? You will find out in this talk. Rachelle grew up with animation films and illustrated books. This stimulated her imagination and her interest in storytelling. She does this as a freelancer from her studio in Rotterdam. Recently, she designed characters for the Dutch animated film Miss Moxy, which will run in cinemas next year.

Wondering what to expect during a Framed Industry Day? 2024 saw the 3rd edition of Forum Groningen's own animated film festival Framed. The Industry Day was a fantastic day full of curiosity, inspiration and creativity. Guests included Wouter Tulp, Stye Hallema, Masha Halberstad & Janneke van de Kerkhof and Molly Heady-Carroll

  • Wouter Tulp: In his role as character designer, Wouter Tulp imagines what characters in animated films might look like. Based in the Netherlands, he works for international clients such as Sony Pictures Animation, Paramount Pictures Animation and Skydance. His designs were used, among others, for the film Leo, which recently appeared on Netflix.
  • Steye Hallema: Stye talked about his new VR production The Imaginary Friend. Together with producer Corine Meijers (Studio Biarritz), he looked back at the project in which he explored the technical limits of VR animation to create a new, personalised viewer experience and gave us a behind-the-scenes look.
  • Mascha Halberstad & Janneke van de Kerkhof: Director Mascha Halberstad and producer Janneke van de Kerkhof came to talk about the making of the film Fox and Hare Save the Forest.
  • Molly Heady-Carroll: How do you make your own indie animation hit? Irish animator Molly Heady-Carroll lives in the Netherlands and made the short animated film Zenibeasts: Kaiju Cutie. She works for clients such as Netflix, Universal Pictures, Night School Studios, BBC, Crackshell Games and Anikey Studios.
