June 6 marks exactly 80 years since D-Day took place and the liberation of Europe began. A great opportunity to revisit Steven Spielberg's masterpiece, with one of the most intense war scenes of all time.
Because all his brothers died in WWII, soldier Ryan (Matt Damon) is allowed to go home. Capt. Miller (Tom Hanks) goes looking for him in Normandy to deliver the good news. The second scene in particular, in which the Allies land on the beach of Normandy, is depicted very intensely by director Spielberg 'because I felt that the truth about what happened on Omaha Beach was long overdue.'
Particularly due to its pursuit of documentary-looking realism, Saving Private Ryan became one of the most impressive war films of all time.
