Alejandra Ortiz (39) is the author of the autobiography De waarheid zal me bevrijden.
She is a trans woman and refugee from Mexico, and wrote her book about the hardships and adversity she endured in her search for freedom. The book is full of sorrow, but also full of perseverance and zest for life.
Currently, Alejandra is working to improve the lives of trans refugees in the Netherlands. She has set up a Language House (a place for language learning for adults), organised symposiums and helped write research reports. For her work, she received the Winc Community Award 2023.
