Idiot Prayer – Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace features the artist performing stripped down versions of his songs on piano, solo in an otherwise empty concert hall.
The set list featured performances of songs from across the Bad Seeds and Grinderman discography as well as songs from Ghosteen, the most recent studio album of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Unique acoustic performances of songs such as Into My Arms, The Mercy Seat, Higgs Boson Blues and Girl in Amber, in the silent grandeur of Alexandra Palace.
Idiot Prayer - Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace was recorded in June 2020, as the United Kingdom gradually eased out of lockdown. It was a response to the restrictions and isolation of the preceding months. A permanent memory to these strange and uncertain times.
Although initially intended to be a one-off online event, Idiot Prayer will be released in cinemas in extended form and will include four previously unreleased songs. Mr Cave enlisted the award-winning cinematographer Robbie Ryan (The Favourite, Marriage Story, American Honey) to film the performance in Alexandra Palace's magnificent West Hall, who partnered with the editor Nick Emerson (Lady Macbeth, Emma, Greta). The music was recorded by sound engineer Dom Monks.
