International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in Groningen is the chance to see the best international documentary premieres and immerse yourself in conversations with filmmakers, attend talk shows, socialize and much more!

From Wednesday 18 to Sunday 22 November, Forum Groningen is all about documentaries during the IDFA festival in Groningen!

Every year in November, we celebrate 5 days of the flourishing international documentary film in all its diversity, during the Groningen satellite edition of the IDFA. We offer you a blistering cross-section of the festival in Amsterdam, with many international premieres or world premieres. The creative documentary is always the starting point for IDFA, with films and projects that artistically reveal reality and express a filmmaker's vision. In addition, the festival offers a sampling of genres, makers and production countries.

And in addition to many premieres, there were of course also many fascinating introductions and post-screening discussions, talks, music and much more!

Early Bird ticket sales for IDFA 2026 begin on Wednesday, October 28, at 12:00 PM and run through Sunday, November 1.

Regular ticket sales begin on Monday, November 2; at this time, tickets will also become available for Cineville pass holders.

Opening film: Everybody To Kenmure Street

The opening film of IDFA in Groningen 2026 is Everybody to Kenmure Street. In May 2021, hundreds of residents in a Glasgow neighborhood rose up when two of their neighbors were taken into custody by immigration enforcement officers. This compelling film features video footage—partly captured by the protesters themselves—interwoven with interviews in which neighbors and activists look back on the uprising.

Docs: Cutting Through Rocks

Can’t wait until IDFA 2026? Watch last year’s audience favorite, Cutting Through Rocks. Sara Shaverdi is the first female council member in her village in rural Iran. Her promises: to curb child marriage, ensure education for girls, and secure a gas connection for the village. It is no easy task in a country where women face systemic disadvantage and many decisions are made in an undemocratic manner.
