The glaciers in Iceland are melting at an alarming rate. Director Sara Dosa (Fire of Love) combines in Time and Water a family history with Icelandic myths and legends, and a poetic view on memory.

Icelandic writer Andri Snær Magnason is commissioned to compose a text for a plaque commemorating Ok—a glacier that perished due to climate change. But what does one write for such an occasion?

Iceland’s glaciers are melting at an alarming rate; Ok was the smallest of them. Andri feels a profound connection to the Icelandic landscape—a bond passed down through generations. His own grandparents were among the first explorers to ascend Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier.

In Time and Water, director Sara Dosa—who previously chronicled the lives of a French volcanologist couple in her film Fire of Love—weaves together family history, Icelandic myths and sagas, a deep reverence for the natural world, and, above all, a poetic perspective on memory.
