In five poignant portraits of family members and loved ones, Iranian filmmaker and actress Pegah Ahangarani intertwines her life story with that of Iran.
From the brave work of her father, who documented the revolution in 1979 on 8mm film, to her own cellphone recordings of the protests in 2009 and the recent raw footage of streets in Tehran during the war that broke out this year. Each chapter – about her father, her uncle, a beloved teacher, a good friend, and finally her newborn daughter – represents a new generation resisting the regime. Hope and despair constantly alternate.
Rehearsals for a Revolution premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Documentary Award (Golden Eye/L’Oeil d’Or) there.
