In diary-like form, jumping back and forth in space and time, the bi-cultural director Viv Li searches for a home between traditional Beijing and queer Berlin, between east and west, between family and friends. A lively self-portrait full of humor and tears.
As a bi-cultural person, the travel-loving Li struggles to find a place where she truly feels at home. The montage of her diary-like film reflects this state of mind, constantly jumping back and forth in space and time, between Beijing, New York, Venice, and Berlin. And between conversations with family members who wonder why she is still single and with friends from the Berlin queer scene where she explores identity and friendship – as “no one teaches you how to be a friend.”
Slowly, with humor, playfulness, and tears, a mosaic of alienation emerges that is at the same time a compelling self-portrait.
