Mahito, a boy trying to come to terms with the death of his mother, steps into a world inhabited by both the living and the dead. In this world, death fades and life rises in a new guise. The semi-autobiographical imaginative epic The Boy and the Heron is Hayao Miyazaki's first film since the Oscar-nominated The Wind Rises and is another autobiographically inspired tribute to friendship.
