Visit the comic, animation and game museum Storyworld and the large exhibition The Art of DC in the Forum during the Museum Night!
On Saturday September 10th 2022 it's time for the Groninger Museum Night. The Forum will be full of festivities and events, with a VR-cinema, a talk about ‘Black in comics’ and, of course, a visit to the comic, animation and game museum Storyworld as well as (this year for the first time!) the large international exhibition of the Forum: The Art of DC - The Dawn of Super Heroes.
Tickets are already for sale! With the purchase of one ticket, you have access to all seven participating museums. Tickets are only available online through the button below. Starting Wednesday September 7th, you can pick up a wristband at any of the participating museums.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for Groninger Museum Night 2022.
Before or after your visit to Storyworld and The Art of DC, you can also attend any of the following programs and events in the Forum during the Museum Night.
6 Oost, from 8pm until 8:45pm.
A discussion about stereotyping in comics, animation and children's books. Why are there so few black comic book heroes? What caricatures are there and what emancipation, if any, did they go through? Should we cancel Tintin in the Congo or treasure it? We also talk about recent graphic novels in which our colonial past plays a leading role. With: Chad Bilyeu (writer, art director and photographer), Aimée Terburg (former comic book critic, visual artist and curator), Jolanda Veen (graduated on the portrayal of black people in Dutch children's literature in the period 1930-2020) and Renate Stuger (who, as a writer, invented superhero Suriman). Facilitator of the discussion is Sherlock Telgt.
6 Oost van 9:30pm until 10pm.
Ever since Superman had his first adventure in 1938, the superhero as a character has become an integral part of our popular media. Having dominated the American comic book culture for over 80 years, these colourful musclemen have become the personification of American popular culture. And after 20 years of blockbuster films, the genre has become a global cultural phenomenon. But these apparently shallow characters are not as innocent as you may think: from the very beginning, Batman, Wonder Woman and a motley crew of superheroes have reflected changing ideas in politics and society. In a dynamic flash lecture, the internationally renowned superhero expert Dan Hassler-Forest (Utrecht University) gives an introduction to the hidden agenda of the American superhero.
4 Oost, from 7:30pm.
More and more film makers and artists are discovering the possibilities of VR as a new platform for storytelling. This has prompted the Virtual Reality Cinema show with 2 special and very different 360-degree VR animations: The Sick Rose (Taiwan, 2021 - in English) and Synthese (The Netherlands, 2021 - in Dutch). In total, the show lasts 23 minutes.
4 Oost, from 7pm.
