Filmmakers Rachel Lauren Mueller and Laura Poitras, Oscar winner for Citizenfour, filmed and gathered footage of witnesses and victims during the raids by the U.S. Immigration Enforcement ICE.
A resistance organization is developing software to map the movements of ICE, based on reports from citizens. In the many recordings from dashcams, bodycams, and smartphones, the violence of ICE comes chillingly close. Migrants are taken away in handcuffs in dark, unmarked vans, while protesting bystanders are kept at bay with tear gas and charges. One of the victims, referred to by the pseudonym Edén Villa, is holed up in the trunk of his own car. Against the backdrop of a snow-covered city, the helplessness of ordinary citizens and the brutal disregard for human rights is powerfully felt.
