In this final film by the legendary French director Robert Bresson, a counterfeit banknote triggers a fateful chain of deception, injustice, and misfortune that slowly leads an innocent truck driver towards crime.

L'Argent (1983) is a subdued yet powerful drama about chance, guilt, and the devastating consequences of moral indifference.

When the young Yvon innocently gets involved in a counterfeit banknote affair, a chain of events is set in motion that completely disrupts his life. What starts as a small deception grows into a tragedy where greed, betrayal, and despair increasingly take hold.

With his characteristic austere style, minimal dialogue, and attention to everyday actions, Bresson creates a film that resonates continually beneath the surface. Based on the story The Counterfeit Coupon by Leo Tolstoy, L'Argent is considered one of Bresson's masterpieces and an impressive concluding piece from one of the greatest filmmakers in film history.
