Parasite (Black & White)

The film made history in 2020 as the first non-English language winner of the Oscar for Best Picture and is a masterful blend of dark comedy, thriller, and social critique.  

The impoverished Kim family sees a chance to escape their hopeless existence when son Ki-woo can get a job as a tutor for the wealthy Park family. Bit by bit, the Kim family manages to embed themselves deeper into the life of the Parks, each with a carefully crafted plan. But behind the luxurious villa and the seemingly perfect life lie secrets that put everything at stake. What begins as a clever con turns into a gripping struggle focused on class, power, and survival.

According to Bong Joon Ho, the black-and-white version brings out the essence of Parasite even more strongly. The absence of color shifts the focus to light, shadow, composition, and the subtle details in the production design. The oppressive atmosphere and sharp social contrasts gain even more impact.
