Framed

Watch the best animated films during Forum's own animated film festival Framed!

Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 May 2026 it is time: a brand new edition of our own Animation Film Festival Framed!

Framed is a festival bursting with animated films, masterclasses, and talks by local and (inter)national creators. Framed offers adult entertainment and depth. You will discover a fascinating visual language, brought to life by hand or by computer. Whether you are a diehard animation fan or just curious, you can indulge yourself at Framed! You will see quirky shorts, classics you’ve always wanted to see, and gems that have never been seen in cinemas before.

With Beyond The Naked Eye: Surrealism in Animation, we let go of reality and bend it. With this thematic program for Framed Festival 2026, these special classic and new films do not follow the rules of our real world, but the strange laws of dreams, memories, and desires. In Satoshi Kon’s masterpiece Paprika, detectives attempt to solve the mystery by entering the dreams of others. In the beautiful It’s Such A Beautiful Day, time, visions, and memories are played with to get to know the main character better from the inside. And in the intense Death Does Not Exist, the longing for a just world is depicted in bizarre colors, strange situations, and a fierce class struggle.

With surreal animated films, you step into a world that doesn't have to be logical at all, and where everything can simply change shape, color, and meaning. It is dreaming, but with your eyes open. It is feeling, rather than understanding. And above all, it is experiencing strange and inhuman visualizations of precisely the extremely human: with Beyond The Naked Eye, the intangible is given a special and imaginative form.

The complete Framed program will be available online on Tuesday, April 14.
