Watch the best animated films during Forum's own animated film festival Framed!
Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 May 2026 it is time: a brand new edition of our own Animation Film Festival Framed!
Framed is a festival bursting with animation films, masterclasses and talks by local and (inter)national makers. Framed offers adult entertainment and depth. You will discover a fascinating visual language, brought to life by hand or computer. Whether you are a die-hard animation fan or just curious, during Framed you can indulge yourself! You will see quirky shorts, narrative films and gems that have never been seen in the cinema before. In 2025 you saw the beautiful opening film The Glassworker (the first fully hand-drawn animation film from Pakistan), special attention for the work of Satoshi Kon, the Virtual Reality film Oto's Planet, and international guests including top animator Sandro Cleuzo.
But Framed is more: throughout the year, we organise animation specials. Keep an eye on this page for the Framed programme!
Framed is looking for animated short films made by people who work, study, live or are born in the North of the Netherlands for a screening in the Shorts of the North competition at Forum Groningen during the festival. Did you recently (2024-2026) create a short film? Submit it to our festival and maybe you will see your animation on the big screen! And maybe you will win the award for 'Best Short of the North'! Please submit your film before the 27th of March.
