Docs: Cutting Through Rocks

Sara's promises: to curb child marriage and guarantee education for girls, but also to arrange the much-desired gas connection for the village. No easy task in a country where women are marginalized and many decisions are made in an undemocratic manner.

The council member quickly discovers that she receives little open support from the community. To get things done, she continues much of her work behind closed doors. She takes in the teenager Fereshteh, hoping to prevent her from being married off. In her free hours, she secretly teaches girls to ride motorcycles and convinces a man to let his wife share in the inheritance.

Despite the pressure from the patriarchal system, Sara does not give up. She challenges the men around her, even when they question the purity of her motives.
