Inspired by personal experiences, the Franco-Senegalese director Alain Gomes blends fiction and documentary. Gloria tells her deceased father that his granddaughter Nour is getting married.
Inspired by personal experiences, the Franco-Senegalese Alain Gomes (Félicité) merges fiction and documentary in a rich impression of the flow of life. At a grave in Guinea-Bissau, we meet Gloria, who grew up in France, with her daughter Nour. She tells her deceased father that his granddaughter Nour is getting married. A vibrant wedding in France and a heartfelt ceremony for the deceased in Africa are the closely intertwined worlds that immerse the viewer.
But first, there are images from the film's casting itself. “We need to form a family,” the professional and non-professional actors are told. The loosely structured story, about the sometimes harsh everyday life, offers much room for improvisation and organically evokes an image of a community. With song and dance, but also collisions and discussion. It is interspersed with confessions from participants on various topics, from domestic violence to migration and colonialism. Meanwhile, Gloria seeks her peace.
