When 16-year-old Chris goes missing, father Daniel becomes entrenched in a meticulous search along the Vistula River. Chris was last seen on a bridge in Warsaw. Did he jump or run away?
Filmmaker Michal Marczak immerses us in Daniel's search, navigating between hope and fear, and closely captures how he combs the river for months on end. The film stays far from the true crime genre; it is not about the mystery of Chris’s disappearance, but rather about how Daniel and his family struggle with the fact that they do not know what has happened.
The relentless search takes an unexpected turn when Daniel comes to the aid of families of other missing persons – sometimes even leading them to answers. In the meantime, he puts together increasingly creative tools to search the river: transmitters, metal detectors, and underwater cameras. After the partially staged All These Sleepless Nights (2016), Marczak once again explores the boundaries of non-fiction with the immersive style of Closure, which feels like a thriller in its camerawork and sound design.
