Free library membership for young people in Groningen
Good news! Starting July 1, 2026, all residents of the Municipality of Groningen aged 18 to 27 are entitled to a free youth library membership at the Forum libraries.
What’s included?
- Borrow 25 titles, with no fines
- Place 5 reservations
- 2 hours of internet access per day at the library
- Read free digital foreign newspapers and magazines via PressReader
- Read unlimited comics via Comics Plus
- Take free online courses and training sessions
- Practice for theory exams for free
What’s not included?
The free youth membership does not include access to the online Bibliotheek (online e-books and audiobooks).
Would you like access to 10 e-books, 10 audiobooks, and 5 magazines for digital reading? Then sign up for a paid membership at the reduced rate of €45 per year.
How does this new youth membership work?
- New library members can sign up for free at the service desk of any Forum library.
- Existing youth members will receive a letter with instructions on how to convert their membership upon turning 18.
- Young people currently holding a paid membership will receive a letter with instructions and details on when the new membership type takes effect.
- This offer applies only to young people with a valid residential address within the Municipality of Groningen.
- This offer applies only to a membership at a Forum library.
