Before they made history with The Matrix, the Wachowskis debuted with this sensual and brilliantly constructed thriller about two criminal lovers (Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly).
An ex-convict vows to lead a better life, but a fatal woman throws that plan into disarray. So far, nothing special. But in the directorial debut of the Wachowski's, now better known as the creators of the Matrix trilogy, the ex-criminal is also a woman.
Gershon is amazing as the taciturn, tough plumber who says things like 'One thing I can't stand is women apologizing for wanting sex,' and Tilly is perfectly cast as the cunning flirt who pretends to be more naïve than she is in countless (under)dresses. No less memorable is their love scene: no tame kisses, but sweaty desire.
