Tacky, hyper-stylistic and raw-realistic thriller with exciting cinematography that will make you lick your fingers. Based on the popular TV series that made Michaell Mann famous in the eighties.
Seventeen years after the 80s police series Miami Vice, director Mann made a film about the undercover police officers James 'Sonny' Crockett (Colin Farrell) and Ricardo 'Rico' Tubbs (Jamie Foxx). When a secret FBI operation goes bloody wrong, Crockett and Tubbs go deep undercover to infiltrate a transnational drug cartel. The super cool super agents soon discover that they have stumbled upon something much bigger than drug smuggling.
Michael Mann is staying away from the iconic TV series Miami Vice, which brought him fame in the 1980s. Flamingos, shoulder pads and the music of Jan Hammer are missing: Mann and cameraman Dion Beebe prefer to use digital means to create stunning images of the nightly bustling city. The exciting camera work is finger-licking good: from elegant and sensual to brutally realistic. The speedboats shine in the sun, while the nail-biting action scenes darken the hyper-stylistic thriller.
