The internationally renowned animator and director Michael Dudok de Wit is coming to the Forum. During this special evening, he will take the audience through his impressive body of work and share insights into his working methods, sources of inspiration, and the power of animation as a storytelling medium.

Dudok de Wit gained worldwide recognition for his poetic and contemplative animation style. His short film Father and Daughter (2000) won an Academy Award and is still considered one of the most beloved animated films of all time. With minimal resources, he conveys universal emotions such as longing, loss, and connection in a poignant manner.

In 2016, he released his first feature-length animated film, The Red Turtle, a remarkable international co-production with Studio Ghibli. The film, which is told almost entirely without dialogue, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was praised worldwide for its visual beauty and philosophical depth.

During his visit to Forum Groningen, Dudok de Wit will reflect on his career, from his early work to his most recent projects. He will discuss the creative process behind his films and explain how he developed his distinctive style.

Of course, we will watch many film clips together (including a complete screening of Father and Daughter).
