Les Triplettes de Belleville (2003) takes you on a quiet, visually rich adventure full of charm, humor, and inventive animation.

The film follows grandmother Madame Souza, her cycling grandson, and their dog Bruno. When her grandson is kidnapped, she travels with Bruno across the Atlantic, enlisting the help of the Belleville Sisters, an elderly singing and dancing trio from the era of Fred Astaire.

With almost no dialogue and sparing use of music, Sylvain Chomet creates a unique atmosphere. His meticulous drawing style brings both the cityscapes and the characters to life, with every corner and alley of Belleville’s world full of detail and personality. An inventive and touching animated classic that effortlessly combines visual subtlety and humor.

This film can be screened thanks to support from the Institut français NL and the IF-cinéma programme.
