Junk Head (2017) by Takahide Hori is an idiosyncratic, post-apocalyptic stop-motion film that brings a grotesque yet surprisingly humorous world to life.
In a future where humanity has lost its fertility, a cyborg is sent on a mission into a vast underground world populated by artificial creatures and dangerous monsters. As he descends further, a strange society with its own rules and logic unfolds.
Initially almost entirely created by Hori himself, Junk Head stands out for its raw stop-motion style and bizarre creature designs. Guillermo del Toro (Frankenstein) even called the project a “work of deranged brilliance.” A unique and eccentric cult piece that balances horror and absurdity.
