The deeply religious and conservative Romanian-Norwegian family, the Gheorghius, move to a small community in a remote fjord in Norway.

Although the couple raises their five children according to the norms and values of the Bible, they build a close bond with their new neighbors. But when teenager Elia Gheorghiu shows up at school one day with bruises, alarm bells start ringing and the village community completely turns against the traditional parenting style of the parents.
