Rediscover the cult classic in a stunning 4K restoration. Two childhood friends are pulled into the underworld of Neo-Tokyo in a dystopian future and must fight to survive.
In July 1988, after a new type of weapon of mass destruction was deployed in the Japanese Kanto region, World War III broke out. 31 years later – 2019. During preparations for next year's Olympic Games, glimpses of the glorious days of Neo-Tokyo, the megalopolis built on Tokyo Bay, can occasionally be seen.
Kaneda, the leader of a bōsōzoku motorcycle gang, leaves a devastating trail on his motorcycle through the desolate streets of Neo-Tokyo. One evening, Tetsuo, one of the gang members, collides with a peculiar test subject from a government experiment.
Dumbfounded, Kaneda and the gang watch as Tetsuo and the mysterious boy are taken to a military laboratory. In an attempt to save Tetsuo, Kaneda tries to infiltrate the military facility, where he discovers that Tetsuo has developed supernatural powers.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for Classics: Akira.
