Bubble Bath by György Kovásznai is a striking animated musical that takes you on an emotional ride of color, rhythm, and movement.
On his wedding day, Zsolt Mohai, an eccentric shop window decorator, visits his friend Anikó and asks her to call his bride Klára to cancel the wedding. Klára is mainly focused on starting a family, but Zsolt and Anikó dream of a freer, more artistic life. What follows is a lively romantic drama full of debates, musicality, and reflections on love, ambition, and life in a modern city.
The psychedelic animation makes colors, lines, and shapes constantly pulse, tilt, and morph, making the characters’ emotions and thoughts immediately tangible. When it premiered, the film was poorly received, but decades later Bubble Bath is regarded as a cult classic of Eastern European animation.
