In Alice, filmmaker Jan Švankmajer brings Lewis Carroll's story to life as a bizarre dream.

Alice, a young girl, follows a white rabbit and finds herself in a strange world full of stop-motion puppets and odd objects. Švankmajer shows that the story feels more like a dream than a fairy tale: there are almost no rules or logic, and strange, funny, or frightening things happen without explanation. While Carroll’s book celebrates the magic of childhood imagination, Švankmajer reveals the dark, strange side of such a dream – like a dream you wake from and think, “What was that all about?”

With its mix of live-action and inventive stop-motion animation, Alice creates a surreal, often absurd world full of symbolism and small details. The result is a hypnotic film that intrigues, confuses, and lingers with you long after viewing.
