In May 2021, hundreds of residents of a neighborhood in Glasgow rise up when two of their neighbors are picked up by immigration police. An infectious film with video footage, partly made by protesters, interspersed with interviews in which neighbors and activists reflect on the uprising.
A heartwarming stream of snacks, water, and blankets begins to flow and in no time the street is transformed into an organized resistance village, while a massive police force watches powerlessly. Some events have been reconstructed by actors, such as the somewhat comical conversations with the man under the bus.
The name of the street where this takes place, Kenmure Street, directly connects the origins of the neighborhood to the legacy of colonialism and slavery. But that same neighborhood also became a showcase of Glasgow's activist tradition and the power of citizen resistance, which is documented in this heartwarming account.
