The Art of DC - The Dawn of Super Heroes

From July 30 through March 26, 2023, the major international exhibition The Art of DC – The Dawn of Super Heroes was on display at Forum Groningen. This was your chance to see incredible props such as the Batmobile up close. You can’t get any closer to your DC superheroes than this!

The Art of DC featured more than 160 original drawings and 200 artworks of DC’s most famous superheroes and supervillains, dozens of original costumes and props from blockbuster films, as well as film clips and interviews. On display were the over three-meter-long Bat Pod from Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, the Batmobile from Joel Schumacher’s film, Jack Nicholson’s Joker suit, Christopher Reeve’s iconic Superman cape, and Lynda Carter’s legendary Wonder Woman costumes from the 1970s.

In addition, visitors could view hundreds of original drawings created for the classic comic books, along with numerous preparatory storyboards and artworks from the various feature films. And of course, you were immersed in film clips and interviews with actors and creators of the superhero movies.

What was there to see and do?

The Art of DC – The Dawn of Super Heroes is a unique exhibition celebrating the history and mythological power of classic superheroes. Characters and stories that have captured the imagination of generations — and inspired many renowned directors — have become an integral part of popular culture.

The exhibition was previously shown in Paris, where it was created, as well as in London, Abu Dhabi, Łódź (Poland), Hong Kong, and in four consecutive cities in Japan (Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Nagoya). After its presentation in Groningen, the exhibition was no longer on view anywhere in Europe.
