Framed Shorts Competition

Framed Shorts Competition

During Framed, the magic of animation in all its forms takes center stage. One of the highlights of the festival is, our short film competition.

There are three categories: International Shorts, Student Shorts, and Shorts of the North. In this competition, you will discover just how powerful animation can be in a short timeframe. From experimental films to compelling stories, every selection demonstrates how creativity, technique, and imagination come together. The films are carefully curated and provide a platform for both emerging talent and established names in the animation world.

An expert jury judged the entries based on originality, craftsmanship, and impact. The awards ceremony took place during the Shorts of the North Competition program.

Winner Student Shorts: Wish You Were Ear

In a world where ex-partners must exchange a chosen body part after every breakup, a fragmented protagonist—who sees his lost ear—embarks on a journey to self-acceptance.

Directed by: Mirjana Balogh
Length: 10 min.

Special Mention Student Shorts: Momma Doesn't Notice Shit

Winner International shorts: Because Today is Saturday

It may be Saturday, but that changes nothing, because Saturday is just like any other day of the week: taking care of the children, cleaning, cooking, without an end to it.

Director: Alice Eça Guimarães
Length: 12 min.

Special Mention International Shorts: This is Your Captain Speaking

What would you do if you could fly for one day?

Directed by: Nienke Deutz, Digna van der Put

Winner Shorts of the North: 't Gat

An old man disappears, and his daughter tries to figure out what happened. Made in analog stop-motion, the film follows her search through a world marked by macabre signs and traces of death. The further she goes, the clearer it becomes that something is present that shouldn't be there.

Directed by: Marieke Druiven
Length: 11 min.

Special mention Shorts of the North: Ik pik

When six-year-old Otto writes his very first story, words turn into images. As he reads aloud, his fantasy world unfolds into an animation, lovingly brought to life by his mother.
