Zilveren Camera

The winning photographs of the Zilveren Camera in Forum Groningen.

From Thursday, 8 January 2026, Forum Groningen presented the exhibition Zilveren Camera: the best Dutch press photographs from the most recent edition in 2024. Powerful images that tell stories about sport, society, politics, and everyday life — sometimes grand, sometimes intimate, but always impactful.

The winner of the 2025 Zilveren Camera is Arie Kievit with his photo series *Right-wing riots* at a demonstration for stricter asylum policy. On September 20, a large demonstration against asylum policy took place on the Malieveld in The Hague, during which violence was used against the police at various locations in the city. The group ‘Els Rechts’ organized a demonstration for stricter asylum policy, but it got out of hand: right-wing far-right slogans were shouted and police cars were set on fire. Several officers were injured and journalists were harassed. A stone was also thrown through the windows of the D66 party headquarters. The events led to a debate in the House of Representatives, and in the months that followed, the District Court of The Hague convicted several suspects for their involvement in the riots.

In addition to these winning images, the exhibition also features the category winners and the Audience Award winners. Together, they demonstrate the power of photojournalism to capture our times — and how a single image can sometimes say more than a thousand words.

Travelling exhibition Zilveren Camera The Zilveren Camera is the largest and most prestigious photojournalism competition in the Netherlands and has been organized since 1949. The competition includes 11 categories, with nominees in each category eligible for the main prize, the Zilveren Camera. In addition to the Storytelling Prize, the jury of the Audience Award selects ten photographs from the submissions that, in its view, are accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
