Fashion Repair
Broken clothes? Stop by and repair them!
Do you have a tear in your favorite shirt, are your pants too long, is a button missing, or is a pocket hanging off and you have no idea how to fix it? Then come to the Smartlab on Thursday evening for the weekly Fashion Repair, because repairing clothes is something you can learn!
Enthusiastic and experienced makers from the Forum and the Textile Hub (Groningen Werkt Circulair, Alfa Fashion) are ready to help you get started. Whether you have no experience at all, think you can’t do it, or are simply curious, everyone is welcome. We’ll show you how to easily repair clothing so it lasts longer. Together, we make both your clothes and the city a little more sustainable!
What can we offer you?
We’re happy to help with simple clothing repairs. Whether by hand or using a sewing machine, we’ll guide you step by step. At the Smartlab, you can use our sewing machines and basic materials such as thread, needles, scissors, and other handy tools. You can also learn techniques for visible mending (repairing clothes in a way that highlights the fix) using methods like darning, appliqué, or the Japanese embroidery technique Sashiko. Do you have specific requests, like a special fabric or a particular color of thread? Please bring those with you.

Fashion Repair is free to attend. Of course, you’re welcome to drop by without an appointment to take a look or ask a question, but to ensure we have time for you, booking in advance is necessary. You can make a reservation via the button below.

What don’t we do?
Not all repairs are suitable for Fashion Repair. If you need help or advice with more complex repairs (such as replacing a zipper, working with leather or other thick fabrics, altering curtains, or if you have a whole bag full of damaged clothes) we’re happy to refer you to the ''fix corner' of our partner Textielhub Groningen or to other sewing studios or workshops in the city. For shoe repairs, it’s best to go to a shoemaker.
