A wonderfully energetic adventure story (and the first collaboration between director Isao Takahata and his protégé Hayao Miyazaki). With its mythological source material and socialist message, Horus is considered the very first ‘adult’ anime.
A young boy named Horus lives in a remote village threatened by a dark, ancient force. After receiving a legendary sword from his dying father, he embarks on a journey through rugged and mysterious landscapes to discover his true destiny.
Along the way, Horus gathers a group of allies, each with their own struggles and loyalties, as they confront both human enemies and the terrifying ice demon Grunwald, who seeks to plunge the world into eternal cold. As Horus grows from an insecure boy into a determined leader, he must unite the people around him to combat the spreading darkness and restore balance to the land.
