A tender character study full of humor and warmth about what it’s like to be queer in later life. Can old age or physical setbacks push you back into the closet? What if you lose not only your independence but also your identity and freedom to be carefree in who you are?
The 76-year-old Vicente has been living a carefree life as an openly gay man in the tourist town of Maspalomas in Gran Canaria for many years. Everything changes when he suffers a stroke and is forced to return to San Sebastián. In the conservative rehabilitation center where he ends up, Vicente finds himself forced to give up everything he has fought so hard for.
Actor José Ramón Soroiz rightly won the Goya for Best Leading Role for his beautiful portrayal, which not only brought to life the loss and uncertainty of his character but also the humor, strength, and determination of a man facing the toughest journey of his life: his rehabilitation.
