Dream away to faraway lands in beautiful colors. The Adventures of Prince Achmed takes you on a journey to a fairytale world based on the stories from One Thousand and One Nights.

Director and animator Lotte Reiniger tells the wondrous story of this prince in the oldest feature-length animated film in film history. Prince Achmed is lured into a trap by an evil sorcerer with a wicked plan. He entices the prince to jump onto a flying horse without telling him how to land the animal again. This is the beginning of a long journey full of encounters with mythical creatures, monsters, Aladdin and his magic lamp, and he falls in love. Will Achmed manage to return in time and stop the sorcerer?

With live music by Steven Kamperman

Composer, alto clarinetist, and drummer Steven Kamperman has built a great reputation over the past decades as a passionate soloist and composer of thrilling music theater productions. With the filmed stories from 1001 Nights as a guide, the music is also inspired by the Middle East, with Kamperman drawing on his decades of experience with Turkish and Arabic makams. Between the melodic lines, blues and colorful improvisations can also be heard. His work often features multiple layers and unexpected twists. Adventures of Prince Achmed embarks on a musically adventurous journey where the music accompanies the film, but the film accompanies the music just as much.

Musicians: Steven Kamperman: alto clarinet, melodica, and drums; Hamid Reza Behzadian: harmonica, Indian guitar, and lap steel; Esat Ekincioğlu: double bass.
