Trafic follows Monsieur Hulot, a graphic designer at the company Altra, who has designed an experimental, technically equipped caravan.
Together with the vehicle, he travels via the motorways of France and Belgium toward the Amsterdam Motor Show, where the model is to be presented to the public and potential buyers. What was meant to be a simple, businesslike journey quickly turns into a chain of problems: mechanical defects, technical malfunctions, a customs inspection, and an accident all cause continuous delays.
The film has also been restored in 4K, allowing the clarity of modern infrastructure, the vehicles, and the visual details of Tati’s choreographed chaos to stand out once again. Trafic is a quintessential work by Jacques Tati, in which humor emerges from delay, miscommunication, and the fragile illusion of efficiency in a hyper-motorized world.
