The Misfits features Marilyn Monroe in one of her most vulnerable and layered roles, in a melancholic drama about people searching for their place in a changing world.
In The Misfits (1961), Marilyn Monroe plays a newly divorced woman who befriends a group of men clinging to a disappearing way of life in the rugged Nevada landscape. Fragile relationships form between them, while it becomes clear that the Old West—and their way of living—is slowly vanishing.
Directed by John Huston and written by Arthur Miller, the film is today regarded as a poignant reflection on loneliness and change. The Misfits is also Monroe’s last completed film role and is being screened in honor of our new exhibition: Marilyn Monroe.
