Blade Runner: The Final Cut is Scott's definitive version of his classic from 1982. In the year 2019, Rick Deckard hunts down escaped, lifelike androids because they have exceeded their expiration date.
Dutch actor Rutger Hauer had his US breakthrough with this film. He plays the role of Roy Batty, a human clone (known as a "replicant") who is pursued by Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford)—an operative, or "Blade Runner," tasked with eliminating such beings.
Today, the film remains as relevant as it was upon its release in 1982. With its striking sets, groundbreaking special effects, impressive costumes, and stunning cinematography, Blade Runner offers a prophetic vision of a dystopian society in the near future. The film’s evocative soundtrack was composed by Vangelis.
Jacob Boorsma (1997) has been teaching for many years about his two passions: philosophy and film. He studied Film in Brussels, where he made many short films, and graduated from the University of Groningen with a Bachelor in Philosophy. With an encyclopedic knowledge of film and specialized knowledge of philosophy, Jacob makes the most complicated concepts accessible and understandable in an engaging manner.
