On Saturday, September 20 2025, the museums in the city of Groningen will open their doors for a vibrant evening full of art.
Until after midnight, visitors can enjoy the cultural offerings of GRID Grafisch Museum, Groninger Museum, Museum aan de A, Noorderlicht, Forum Groningen/ Storyworld, Synagogue Groningen and the University Museum. Museum Night is a concept in cultural Groningen. Visitors not only admire exhibitions and permanent presentations in the museums, but also enjoy a dazzling program with music, workshops, lectures, dance, poetry and other performances.
Museum Night at Forum
During Museum Night, Forum will be buzzing with art, music, stories and ink. Be amazed by the history and meaning of tattoos in the international exhibition TATTOO and watch live tattoo sessions by artists from Groningen. Design your own temporary tattoo, steal the show with Guitar Hero and discover the art of storytelling in the comic, animation and game museum Storyworld. With performances by Geestdrift and the fun Tattoo Pub Quiz, the Forum is the place to be for an unforgettable Museum Night full of inspiration and creativity.

Tattoos have become an integral part of the street scene. More and more people are decorating their skin with ink, but where does this fascination come from? What do these ink drawings tell us about ourselves? The international exhibition TATTOO shows the development of tattoos into a global art form.
Through unique objects, eye-catching ink creations, rare photographs and impressive films, TATTOO reveals the history and cultural significance of tattoos, an art form that inspires people of all ages and backgrounds.

Needles, ink and the buzzing sound of tattoo machines. During Museum Night, a number of Groningen tattoo artists will be showing off their skills live. Watch artists such as Emil Klein, Bastian and Charlotte from Het Gouden Anker and Angii from Tattoo Ben at work and see how unique works of art are created on the spot.
Would you like to get a new tattoo, or even your first one? You can! Make an appointment via the artists Insta or drop by on the day!

At the entrance to the TATTOO exhibition, you will see portraits of Groningen entrepreneurs, tattoo artists and locals with their tattoos and the stories behind the ink. Would you like to share your tattoo story too? Capture your tattoo and leave your story in the photo booth on the exhibition square.
Who knows, you might see your story in TATTOO – where we show as many stories as possible on a screen – and you could win a signature skull by Henk Schiffmacher!

At the VERS* Tattoo Shop, you can get your own temporary tattoo! Design your own tattoo or choose one of our unique Museum Night designs. Not sure where to start? An artist will be on hand to help you. Afterwards, we will print them out for you so you can apply them right away!
*VERS is the Forum's group of young programmers. They organise events and create online content for young adults.

In a cosy setting, we test your knowledge of everything related to tattoos: from traditional techniques and iconic artists to pop culture and interesting facts.
Whether you're covered in ink yourself or just curious about the stories behind the needle, this pub quiz is sure to inspire and entertain!

Storytelling is a gift, but what is the secret to it? At Storyworld, the museum of comics, animation and games, you can discover the secrets of great storytellers!
We do this by looking at Dutch and international successes in the field of comics, animation and games.

Tattoos and rock go hand in hand. During Museum Night, you can feel like a rock star, even without tattoos.
Take your moment on stage, choose your favourite track, play that solo or perform with your friends and show that you are a real star.

Geestdrift, a four-piece band, that makes Dutch-language alternative music with a touch of punk.
Perfect for this Museum Night with a raw edge.

During the Groninger Museumnacht you can visit all locations in the city of Groningen with one ticket. Tickets are €13.50.
