France, 1870. Rosalie is hiding a secret: her face and body are covered with hair. A powerful portrayal of pain, societal prejudices and hope, rolled into an emotional period drama.
Rosalie is about to marry Abel, a café owner who is deeply in debt. Her father has saved a considerable dowry to increase her chances of marriage. Abel, owner of a café near a factory, marries Rosalie without knowledge of her secret, attracted by the promise of financial relief from his debts. On their wedding night, he is shocked by her appearance and rejects her. Rosalie wants nothing more than to stay married because her deepest wish is to have a child. Rosalie, steadfast and resilient, is not discouraged by the negative comments.
French director Stéphanie Di Giusto (La danseuse) once again presents a film about an exceptional woman with Rosalie. Di Giusto drew inspiration for this feminist and delicate film from Clémentine Delait, a French bearded lady and café owner who was famous at the beginning of the twentieth century. Starring Nadia Tereszkiewicz and Benoît Magimel.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for Rosalie.
