A restrained and refined directorial debut about the quiet power of identity and desire. A young Korean woman's life takes an unexpected turn when a French artist disrupts her daily routine.
Sooha works in a guesthouse in the snowy coastal town of Sokcho. Her routine is disrupted when a French guest books a room. This guest, an artist, is looking for inspiration. He wants to get to know authentic Korea and asks Sooha to help him. Through his gaze, Sooha discovers a new side of her country and of herself.
Meanwhile, she increasingly reflects on her own identity and that of her father, a French man about whom she knows little. Director Koya Kamura is himself of French and Japanese descent.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for Winter in Sokcho.
