A comedic musical drama directed by Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network). What happens when an unassuming housewife (Julianne Moore) tries her hand at amateur theater?
When Mona Friedman lands a role in an amateur theater production, she transforms from a shy, unassuming housewife into a driven 'method actor.' She is willing to go to any lengths to protect the artistic integrity of her modest role—even if it means clashing with the play's domineering director (Paul Giamatti).
'Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti are dynamite together in Jesse Eisenberg's entertainingly offbeat theater comedy' – The Hollywood Reporter.
The Debut is an A24 production. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival.
