Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Mépris features Michel Piccoli (La Grande Bouffe, Belle de Jour) as a screenwriter torn between the demands of a proud European auteur (played by the legendary director Fritz Lang), a coarse and arrogant American producer (Jack Palance), and his disillusioned wife, Camille (the superb Brigitte Bardot), as he struggles to adapt the script for a new film version of The Odyssey.
Jean-Luc Godard’s subversive entry into the commercial film world is a refined and absorbing epic; a piercing study of marital rupture, artistic compromise, and the filmmaking process itself, elevated by an unforgettable score from the multiple award-winning composer Georges Delerue.
Godard’s colorful yet melancholic meditation on the complexity of human relationships in an age of commercialization returns to the big screen once more on the occasion of the passing of French film icon Brigitte Bardot.
There are no new dates planned (yet) for RIP Brigitte Bardot: Le mépris.
