After being bitten by a zombie, teenage Soo-ah changes: her eyes turn white, and she resembles an angry, moody animal, poised to attack. But her father still loves and recognises her – and will do anything in his power to save her from the zombie hunt.
Directed by Pil Gam-sung and based on Lee Yoon-chang’s webtoon of the same title, My Daughter Is a Zombie mixes adventurous comedy and heartfelt drama to build an ode to parental love. During a zombie outbreak, Jung-hwan and his teenage daughter, Soo-ah, are attacked at their home. While trying to find refuge, the girl is infected with the zombie virus. Unwilling to give up on her daughter, Jung-hwan takes her to a seaside village where the grandmother lives. Convinced that she still retains her human heart and will respond to memories, Jung-hwan puts his experience as an animal trainer into re-educating Soo-ah.
Racing forward perfectly without a moment of boredom, while simultaneously revealing the family’s backstory, My Daughter Is a Zombie is true entertainment for all audiences. Pil delivers a film of immense charm, backed by extraordinary and versatile performances from the entire cast. Using the premises of the zombie genre but reinventing its conventions, My Daughter Is a Zombie is punctuated by exhilarating scenes where music, dance and rhythm play a crucial role.
