Five More Minutes

A marriage that is already on the brink of collapse becomes even more complicated when a couple gets caught in five endlessly looping minutes during a trip to the countryside. In Five More Minutes, director Javier Ruiz Caldera transforms a simple time loop concept into a pitch-black comedy that thrives on repetition and perfectly timed catastrophes. The screenplay was written by Berto Romero, who, alongside Belén Cuesta and Javier Cámara, also plays one of the lead roles. At first, the characters find the five-minute time loops amusing, but there’s little to laugh about when injuries, mistrust, alcohol, and disastrous decisions hinder a real restart. This original global genre hit combines a recognizable marital crisis with existential fears and slapstick bravado, making it never predictable.
