An intimate portrait of creativity clashing with chaos. Gary Young, drummer for indie rock legends Pavement, injected an unpredictable vibe into the band's groundbreaking lo-fi sound. But those same impulses threw a spanner in the works of his dream of becoming a rock star.
A cinematic journey through the life of Gary Young, the original and highly unconventional drummer of indie rock icons Pavement. His alcohol- and drug-fuelled antics (handstands on stage, handing out vegetables to fans) and haphazard production methods (which accidentally helped launch the lo-fi sound) were both a driving force behind the band's rise and the cause of its eventual crash.
Gary leaves a trail of joy and/or destruction at every turn, teetering on the thin line between free self-expression and chaotic self-destruction. Thirty years later, faced with scoliosis, blood clots and a shrivelled liver, he looks back.
