Overqualified and underappreciated, Rita works at a large law firm whose clientele includes mostly serious criminals. She receives a mysterious phone call from drug lord Manitas Del Monte. He makes Rita an offer she cannot refuse. She will never have to work again if she helps him leave his empire behind. In fact, Manitas has a plan he has been secretly refining for years: finally become the woman he has always wanted to be, Emilia Pérez.

Prior to the film, see the Ultra-short film De Afvalligen. A stop-motion musical in which trash dumped next to the dumpster no longer believes to be trash. Singing and dancing, they “reclaim” their (self-)worth. On a city street corner, a pile of dumped trash lies around two dumpsters. The broken mirror, the discarded painting and others of their kind confess the sad reasons why they were literally cast aside.

Ultrakort is a competition for novice and experienced animation filmmakers who want to realize an animated film of up to 2 minutes. With this arrangement the Film Fund gives an impulse to the development of animation talent in the Netherlands and to reaching a broad and diverse cinema audience for the Dutch short animation film.
