Zilveren Camera

The winning photographs of the Zilveren Camera in Forum Groningen.

From Thursday, 8 January 2026, Forum Groningen presented the exhibition Zilveren Camera: the best Dutch press photographs from the most recent edition in 2024. Powerful images that tell stories about sport, society, politics, and everyday life — sometimes grand, sometimes intimate, but always impactful.

The winner of the Zilveren Camera 2024 is Remko de Waal with his photograph On the Way to Gold!, featuring athlete Sifan Hassan during the final kilometers of the Olympic marathon in Paris. The jury described the image as “timeless” and praised the way tension, emotion, and exhaustion come together in a single frame. A photograph that goes beyond sport — about perseverance, humanity, and connection.

The Storytelling Prize was awarded to Çiğdem Yüksel for You Should Know, a compelling project about the first generation of women from Turkey in the Netherlands. Through her work, Yüksel sheds light on an underexposed part of our history, connecting past, present, and future.

In addition to these winning images, the exhibition also features the category winners and the Audience Award winners. Together, they demonstrate the power of photojournalism to capture our times — and how a single image can sometimes say more than a thousand words.

Travelling exhibition Zilveren Camera

The Zilveren Camera is the largest and most prestigious photojournalism competition in the Netherlands and has been organized since 1949. The competition includes 11 categories, with nominees in each category eligible for the main prize, the Zilveren Camera. In addition to the Storytelling Prize, the jury of the Audience Award selects ten photographs from the submissions that, in its view, are accessible and engaging for a broad audience.
